Unplug with Mud this Fall Break!
Looking for something creative and enriching for your kids during fall break?
Our Fall Break Clay Camp invites 3rd-5th grade students to unplug, get muddy, and explore the timeless art of working with clay in a fun, hands-on environment.
October 13th-17th
9AM-11:30AM
Why Clay?
The visceral joy of clay has been with humankind since we first discovered that water and dirt made a fun kind of mud! From early vessels used to store food and water to today's expressive abstract sculptures, clay has shaped our world—and now it’s your child’s turn. This camp is designed specifically for grades 3rd-5th—no experience necessary! Whether they‘re first-time artists or budding ceramicists, they’ll feel right at home in the studio.
Campers will get muddy with intention through guided instruction in:
Wheel-throwing
Hand-building (pinch pot, coiling, and slab)
Sculpture
Take home at least one colorful creation in each technique!
What they’ll do…
Creative Freedom Encouraged
While we’ll offer project ideas and thematic inspiration, this camp is all about encouraging individual expression. Campers are welcome—and highly encouraged—to bring their own ideas, reference images, and creative spark to the table. Our instructors will help guide each child's personal vision into clay form.
Glazing & Pick-Up Information
At Magical Mudworks, campers will explore a variety of clay-building techniques. Because of the nature of kiln-fired clay—and our commitment to providing the best possible experience for our campers—we do not rush the glazing process during camp. Instead, each camper will receive a glazing voucher to return to the studio at a later time, on their own schedule, to glaze their finished pieces.
All camper work will require approximately two weeks to fully dry and go through its first (bisque) firing. Families will be notified once the pieces are bisque-fired and ready to glaze. At that point, campers will have 30 days to return to the studio and use their glazing voucher. After glazing, there will be another two-week turnaround for the final glaze firing.
Once pieces are fully completed and glaze-fired, families will be notified that they are ready for final pick-up, and we will hold all finished work for 30 additional days after that notification.
